SDC: Tell us a little bit about your crochet experience such as when did you start to crochet and how long you’ve been crocheting?
Lorene: My grandmother taught me a basic chain when I was a child. I taught myself, after lots of frogging, about 6 years ago.
SDC: Who has influenced you either as a crocheter or designer?
Lorene: I don’t have any specific influences other than my ultra artistic family. Everyone has their own thing… crochet is mine.
SDC: What inspires your crochet designs?
Lorene: Fashion and nature are what inspire me the most.
SDC: As a designer, it’s pretty hard to chose what your favorite design is, but, is there one or two that you really enjoyed creating? Tell us little about it and leave links to where they can be found.
Lorene: Rolling in the Deep is one of my favorite designs. It is super simplistic but I love the color blocking and color combination.
SDC: What are your favorite fiber types you like to work with?
Lorene: It really depends on the season. I love cotton blends or silk blends in the summer and acrylic and wool blends in the winter.
SDC: Are there any sage advice you can give to a new crocheter, and a new crochet designer?
Lorene: Just don’t give up. This business isn’t easy, but it is fun. Be unique and don’t try to emulate another designer, just let your own creative juices flow. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, that’s how we learn.
SDC: This is something most crocheters are curious about, what’s the size of your yarn and hook stash?
Lorene: Oh boy. I have about 10-12 large bins/totes full of yarn (this is after de-stashing) and about 30-40 hooks, though I only ever end up using my Clover Soft Touches or Furl hooks.
Here’s another beautiful and elegant original Cre8tion Crochet design just for you.
Let us know what you think. I hope you’ve enjoyed this session of Inside the Crochet Designer’s Mind with Lorene of CRE8TION CROCHET.
As always, much love and happy hooking.
