Dancing Flames Market Bag CAL
Part Four – The Handles of the Bag
Finally! We have made it to the very end! Welcome to Part Four – The Handles of the Bag – of the Dancing Flames Market Bag CAL! This week, we will be working on, you guessed it, the handles of the bag. By now, you should have completed the bottom of the bag and the body of the bag. If this is the first time you’re learning of this CAL, don’t worry, you can get all caught up. The pattern is for free, on my blog, and will remain free, on my blog. As a convenience for everyone, I will be adding the full, ad-free pattern, via PDF, on Ravelry for a fee of $2. This fee helps me to continue offering free patterns to you on the blog, and also gives you the convenience of not needing to be on the blog with ads.

Need to find each part quickly? Here is the schedule, thus far. Remember, this is the last week!
- Thursday, July 6, 2017 (part one, the supplies list)
- Thursday, July 13, 2016 (part two, the bottom of the bag)
- Thursday, July 20, 2016 (part three, the body of the bag)
- Thursday, July 27, 2016 (part four, the handles of the bag)
Now, let me give you some info on the handles of the bag. As you will notice, the handles aren’t quite lined up evenly, as you can tell from the picture. I did this on purpose because it adds character to the bag. If you look at it when it’s flat, you will see the bag resembles, slightly, the shape of an ancient vase with how the handles are made. It’s just for character and stylistic purposes. This design does not affect the functionality of the bag, as I’ve used mine several times and it works well.
Remember to add the pattern to your Ravelry favorites so you don’t lose it. Now, enough blathering from me; let’s get to the pattern!
Pattern Notes
- You will be working with a 5mm hook for the handles of the bag.
- Ch1 does not equal a stitch.
- You can make your handle taller if you want. Just repeat round 39 until you’ve reached the desired height. Then after created your handles “holes” in round 40 & 41, repeat round 43 several more times. This is, of course, depending on how much yarn you have left.
Pattern – using a 5mm hook.
Round 38: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <80 sc>
Round 39: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <80 sc>
Round 40: Ch1, 1 sc in the next 15 sts, ch15, sk15 sts, 1 sc in the next 20 sts, ch15, sk15 sts, 1 sc in the next 15 sts, join.
