Dancing Flames Market Bag CAL Part Two

Dancing Flames Market Bag CAL

Part Two – Bottom of the Bag

Welcome to Part Two of the Dancing Flames Market Bag CAL! Last week, in Part One, you learned all about the supplies you’ll need to create this bright and fun market bag. Now, I have to say that while gauge is usually not important in some of these types of projects, for this one you should try to match gauge as close as possible so that this can truly be a one skein project.

Now, on to part two! This week, we’ll be working on the bottom of the bag only. As you can see from the picture, the stitches are tight so that it creates a sturdy bottom to hold your items in place.

Just as a reminder, here is the schedule for the Dancing Flames Market Bag CAL:

  • Thursday, July 6, 2017 (part one, supplies list)
  • Thursday, July 13, 2016 (part two, bottom of the bag)
  • Thursday, July 20, 2017 (part three, body of the bag)
  • Thursday, July 27, (part four, handles of the bag)

Now, on to the pattern! Please read the pattern notes as it’ll make the pattern easier to understand.

Add your project to Ravelry so that you don’t lose it!

Pattern Notes

  • For the bottom of the bag, you will be using your 5mm hook.
  • For the bottom of the bag, note that the Ch1 does not equal a stitch. You will be placing the first sc, or first 2 sc (depending on which round you’re on) of each round in the same st, and then continuing with the pattern as written.
  • In the sc rounds for the bottom of the bag, join with a sl st to the first st (sc) of the round and skipping over the Ch1.
  • Stitch count at the end of each row will be shown in brackets < >.
  • MC – Magic Circle/Ring – See Cre8tion Crochet for a tutorial.
  • See Part One for Stitch Abbreviation, if needed.

Pattern – Using your 5mm hook

Round 1: 8 sc in MC, join. OR (if you can’t do the MC) Ch4, join with a sl st, ch1, 8 sc in the circle just made.

Round 2: Ch1, 2 sc in ea st around, join. <16sc>

Round 3: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <16sc>

Round 4: Ch1, [2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next] 8x, join. <24sc>

Round 5: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <24sc>

Round 6: Ch1, [2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 2 sts] 8x, join. <32sc>

Round 7: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <32sc>

Round 8: Ch1, [2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 3 sts] 8x, join. <40sc>

Round 9: Ch1,  1 sc in ea st around, join. <40sc>

Round 10: Ch1, [2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 4 sts] 8x, join. <48sc>

Round 11: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <48sc>

Round 12: Ch1, [2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 5 sts] 8x, join. <56sc>

Round 13: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <56sc>

Round 14: Ch1, [2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 6 sts] 8x, join. <64sc>

Round 15: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <64sc>

Round 16: Ch1, [2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 7 sts] 8x, join. <72sc>

Round 17: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <72sc>

Round 18: Ch1, [2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 8 sts] 8x, join. <80sc>

Round 19: Ch1, 1 sc in ea st around, join. <80sc>

Stop here for now. You have just completed the bottom of the bag. Make sure that you do have 80 sc at the end. It’s imperative for the body of the bag. Your bottom should now measure, when folded, 8″ W (side to side) x 4″ L (top to bottom).

Please be sure to keep your stitches in place with a stitch marker. Come back next week for Part Three of the pattern, the Body of the Bag. This part uses fun stitch combinations!
