Easy Plaid Headband and Earwarmer Free Crochet Pattern

Easy Plaid Headband and Earwarmer

Plaid is synonymous with fall, winter, and things warm. This Easy Plaid Headband and Earwarmer fall into all those categories, it’s perfect for the fall, winter, and will keep your ears warm during cold weather. This free crochet pattern is perfect for areas where the weather is cold but mild. It’s also perfect for those fabulous hair days where you need to keep warm but don’t want to mess up your hair! Trust me, I know! With short curly hair, hats tend to flatten my hair or frizz it up, so a headband earwarmer is a fantastic solution.

The Easy Plaid Headband and Earwarmer is part of the 2019 Holiday Stashdown Crochet Along hosted by the CAL Central Facebook group. You can find all sorts of fantastic CALs in this group by amazing and talented designers. I’m honored to be included in such a phenomenal group of designers.

One of the things I enjoy designing the most are quick and easy crochet patterns, and this Easy Plaid Headband and Earwarmer is just that, quick and easy. I can tell you that I sat and crocheted, while designing, this piece in about maybe 2 episodes of The Mandalorian on Disney+ and His Dark Materials on HBO. It really is that quick to make.

The yarn I used to make this design is Kraemer Yarn, Tatamy, which is a worsted weight yarn in cotton and acrylic. Kraemer Yarns provided the yarn I used to make the design. Thank you Kraemer Yarns! I have never worked with this yarn before but I have to say that I did enjoy working with it. It’s soft and easy to work with, and the colors I chose really pop. While the Ginger (orange looking color) color is bold, I just love how it looks. It’s bright yet not too outlandish and definitely holds its own agains the other two colors. The Harvest Gold adds just the right softness to tone down the boldness of the Ginger. And the Walnut ties them all together.

I chose to do the plaid technique because I wanted to use my most favorite stitch of all, the half double crochet (hdc), but wanted to add character to the stitch. The plaid technique does just that. If you know how to do the half double crochet (hdc) and know how to do color changes in your row and from stitch to stitch, you can definitely work up this pattern. I promise you that plaid is not as intimidating as it looks. The plaid technique is truly quite simple.

What I love about the Easy Plaid Headband and Earwarmer Free Crochet Pattern is that it’s a great stash busting project. Seriously. Even though I used different colors, I used partial skeins of each. One skein of Kraemer Yarn in Tatamy is 180 yards. I know I used up less than that. Exactly how much, I can’t say but with about 100 yards or so of yarn, you’ll have your own Easy Plaid Headband and Earwarmer.
