Homespun Comfort Shawls Book Review
and Giveaway
A few months ago, I received a copy of Homespun Comfort Shawls by Leisure Arts for review. When I received the book one of the first things I noticed was its size. I was happy to see that it’s small enough, at 8.5″ x5.5″, to comfortably fit in my crochet bag. Now, if you have your crochet projects with you all the time, you’ll know how good it is to have a book that’s paperback and small.
Disclaimer: I did receive a copy of this book in exchange for a review and to do a giveaway.

I specifically requested to review this book because it offered me an opportunity to see the Lion Brand Homespun yarn used in many different ways other than blankets. I believe I worked with LB Homespun before but can’t remember exactly. I wanted to be able to crochet a project from the book, even though I don’t normally crochet projects from books for review.
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the projects in the books, the different ones offered, and with how lovely the project I chose to work on came out. I decided to make the Shrug because I’ve never made one and wanted to see how it would turn out. I was happy with my project. I got my yarn at a local big box store and got to work. The pattern was very easy to follow, although there were some user errors that caused me to frog back my project. Hmmph! I was not happy about that. BUT, after using some stitch markers to properly mark my work (not specified in the book), I was able to continue crocheting along and finish my project. The only thing I wasn’t able to do was meet gauge on this project so I went up a hook size and it all worked out okay for me. I’ll be using my shrug in the fall when the weather gets cooler.
Here is what my version of the Shrug.
Now the technical part of the review – The book has all the information you will need to create one of the many lovely creations. At the end of the book, you have a glossary, of sorts, along with a key of the stitches and terminology needed to complete your shawls. The shawls are pretty easy to make and the projects seem to work up fairly quickly due to the bulky yarn used. Speaking of which, you can use any bulky yarn to create either of these lovely projects.

You’re welcome. 🙂
I’m new to crocheting, and I’m obsessed with it! Wow, what a difference it has made for me since I have MS. My hands don’t shake as bad anymore, and it actually helps me take my mind of the disease and pain. I really think this has been the best thing for me this year.
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity, but most importantly, thanks for your website, Facebook group (I just joined today) and for the patterns.
