Petite Shells Slouch Hat
This Petite Shells Slouch Hat features an intriguing texture made just by using the petite shell stitch. It’s warm and comfortable, too! The use of yarn and stitches make this hat great for most sizes. The band and pompom ties add a whimsical touch.

Mark sts 10 & 55 of this round; these sts will be used for the band portion of the hat. Fasten off.
Band worked in rows.
Row 1: With the RS of the hat facing you, join yarn to marked st #10 (st on your left), dc2tog over same st and next, 1 dc in the next 42 sts, dc2tog over the last 2 sts, turn. <44 dc>

Row 6: Ch1, 2 hdc in the same st, 1 hdc in ea st across up until the last st, 2 hdc in the last st. <52 hdc> Fasten off.
Edging:
Row 7: With CB, ch1, 1 hdc in the same st, 1 hdc in ea st across to the end <52 hdc>. Continuing to work around the hat, place 1 sc in the same st as the hdc, 2 sc in ea side post st, 1 sc in ea hdc in the back until you reach the sides of the band, place 2 sc in ea side post and the same st as the 1st hdc in that same row 7. Sl st to the first hdc and fasten off. Your hdc count may be different than mine but it doesn’t affect anything if your count is different. This is just an added touch of style and finishing off the hat.
Ties and Pompom – make 2 of each
You can chain any length you’d like for your ties to be but here’s what I did:
Leaving a 6” tail, ch 41, 1 sc in the 2nd chain from hook, 1 sc in ea st across, fasten off. <40 sc>
Using your favorite pompom maker, make 2 pompoms the same size. These should be bigger than the pompom at the top of your head but the choice is completely yours.
Attach your ties to both sides of your band and at the corners. This helps to pull down the band, giving it that bonnet look. I used yarn to attach the ties to the corner. Use the tail of your starting chain to attach your pompom to the tie.
Thank you so much for this pattern. I just finished it and it worked up beautifully!
